Dust may seem negligible, especially if we talk about laptops. After all, shouldn’t it be enough to keep the outside of our laptops clean? Unfortunately, the answer is no. It is not enough. Even if you keep the outside of your laptop clean, dust can still enter it. Left untreated, dust can clog the inner parts of the laptop and may result in issues such as overheat.
There is no need to worry, though. Here, we will tell you how you can clean dust from your laptop. We split our tutorial into two: in case you can open the laptop yourself and in case you can’t. Alright, without further ado, here’s how you can do it.
If You Can Open the Laptop
Let’s start in case you can open the laptop yourself. Most laptops are not meant to be opened by the users themselves. This is especially true for the newer models. This, of course, can be a problem if we want to clean the inside part of the laptop.
Cleaning the inner part of a laptop is quite similar to cleaning the inner part of a PC. You start by turning it off, unplug, open its case, use canned air to blow it out, and close the case. Cleaning the inside of a laptop is more or less like that. That is, if you can get to the inside of the laptop.
To know whether or not you can open your laptop, check its bottom panel. Some models have a bottom panel, others have several bottom panels. To clean your laptop, you need to turn it off, remove its battery, and unscrew its panel. You can make the cleaning process much easier if you read your laptop’s manual as you will know its components. Before you open your laptop make sure you check whether opening it will void its warranty, just to be safe.
After the laptop is opened, take it to a place where you can dispose of the dust easily, like the garage or the backyard. Pick a canned air and blow out the inner parts of the laptop. Be sure that the dust is blown out. Also, don’t blow the fans inside for too long. Instead, use short blasts from different angles to avoid damaging them. And that’s how you clean dust from a laptop if you can open it.
If You Can’t Open the Laptop
Can you clean your laptop if you can’t open it? The answer is yes, you can. As we mentioned earlier, most laptops are not meant to be opened by users. As such, some laptops can’t be opened by users. If yours is like this, no need to panic. You can still clean it without having to open it.
So, how can you do it? First, take your laptop to a place where you can dispose of the dust easily. Then, take a canned air, aim it at the cooling vent part, and blow it out. When you do this, use short blasts and don’t aim to your laptop’s fans directly. This should dislodge the dust inside. This is not as effective as when you can open the laptop, but it may be the only thing you can do.
