The new update is that the iPhone 11 will be able to scan your vein to unlock and to detect who is the one picking up the phone. Apple filed the patent in February 2018. The patent is discovered by BGR. The patent shows the front-camera on a device which will scan your blood vessels and veins in your face to detect who is the one using the phone. This feature is called subepidermal imaging.
The camera will scan your face using an infrared and the processor in the device will compute the information using various processes which involve scoring the scan which based on previous templates and scans. All of that has been explained in detail in the patent. Surprisingly, Apple filed the patent before launching the iPhone XS. The original plan was to place the patent in the iPhone XS but they could not make it. Although there is no guarantee that this patent will be used in the upcoming iPhone 11, it is still a huge step for Apple in improving their security.
